How to cope in this rainy season

How to get by in this rainy season

By Bebby Ima

Life they say is not about waiting for the storm to pass, but it's about learning to dance in the rain.
I used to be really pissed  about the rainy season......okay truthfully, I still am.

I remember being a kid and it rained so hard on this particular day, all day precisely and i was really scared. To add salt to injury, my siblings told me the world was about to end and to go pack my belongings so we can leave, ah I cried and ran into the room to pack, just then they began to laugh. Who does that to a kid? well-done big bro and sisters (culprits). I just do not understand why the rain won't fall with moderation, you know? like start, pause for a few days then make it rain again. You know you do share the same sentiments as mine.

Last night, I thought and jotted several intriguing topics to blog about and voila! The showers through the night struck me.
My readers would like to read about coping with this ever pouring rain. Remember growing up? It never used to rain like this; what happened to the climate for goodness sake? hmm
They say its Global warming, and looking up the phenomenon and i'm in agreement, that is just going to be a topic for another day ah.
Nowadays, the rain has a funny way of either starting to pour in the morning during rush hour or even evening rush hour, and sometimes all through the day.
It doesn't seem to mind if you have to go to work, the market, mall, church, mosque or even for an owambe event you have been waiting to turn-up and slay slay slay.
Uhn Uhn so if it does not care about my schedule, I have to beat it some how and still be happy.

Also, consider how a cloudy sky can some how make one moody and not too excited about the day's activities. You know what? this works a lot; always see it as showers of blessing from the heavens.
So, here are a few tips to help us cope with the season:

Keep warm

Dressing suitably and comfortably for the weather is the first tip for today because it can get really cold. Some of us easily go under the weather, so if you know this much from past experience ensure that you keep warm. Wearing layers of clothing that you are comfortable and warm in.
Parents ensure that kids are properly covered up, or advised to stay warm in a bid to keep the cold far far away.

It is of necessity that one invest in some appropriate weather suitable clothing that you have to pull out of the wardrobe when the season comes.
Get waterproof accessories that are really lovely and you would still look gorgeous for the season. The rainy season should not be an excuse not to slay. 😃😃😃😃
You could go on to your local market, online platforms or malls to get a jelly boot, shower cap,jelly/rubber slipper, rain coats, pull-over jackets etc that would help you stay warm and protect your clothes, shoes & hair when you are not driving or walking out in the rain.

Please a quick warning: Ensure not to over use layers of clothing for kids most especially, as they might get too hot and run a temperature.

Protect your feet and shoes

Jelly rain boots for kids, men and women are now trending.Wear suitable shoes when its raining and you know you might one way or the other walk in it. Encourage kids to stay out of the rains, erosion, floods it has been known to carry with them germs that can cause disease to the body.

Other important accessories

Umbrellas, rain coats and waterproof bags are accessories that everyone should
consider investing on. From personal experience, these kind of items can be cheaper to buy in the summer.

Walk or drive with real caution

Don't let me tell you about how as a 10 year old I walked into a ditch because the junction was flooded and was confused as to where to go through. I drank plenty erosion water. Walk/drive slow, watch before stepping.
Avoid corners or gutters and ditches, if you are not familiar with the road it's best you ask questions or better still wait till help comes.
These days it gets really flooded, we have seen some instances of how some persons were impatient and entered the flood only to lose their cars or even life. Not our portion in Jesus name. Amen!

More so, be careful when walking on wet surfaces or with wet shoes and dripping rain, many have slipped and really soiled themselves or had an injury or two. That can be really embarrassing, possibly wear good shoes with good grip soles to get traction.

Vitamin supplements

Aside from the occasional sunshine in the morning, which delivers to us our daily dose of Vitamin D, do not fail to take Vitamin D supplements when you can. Also Vitamin C supplements would help to protect you from catching a cold.

It's breeding season

Yes, mosquitoes breed in stagnant, stale waters. But they breed even more in the rainy season, they multiply so much that it seems like they will never end. The problem of mosquitoes is a major situation in sub-Saharan Africa. Please lock your doors and windows, get a mosquito net and arm yourself with an insecticide( any of the brands).
Help young children to cover up properly and stay indoors, while enjoying an indoor sport rather than playing outside.

Indoor tips for the rainy season

Sometimes you might be caught up indoors because of the rain or you do not have to go out, no need to feel moody and unhappy. Don't just sing rain, rain go away, come again another day; it won't go. Make it a productive day, ain't no need to stay idle because of the rain.

Exercise

It can be a good time to catch up on a few workouts when indoors during this season. Exercising will help improve your overall well-being, keep you rejuvenated, increase breathing and basically to get the blood pumping. It is a way to keep warm after getting wet in the rain, loosen body muscles and maintain flexibility. Another benefit is that it can help calm you nerves, reduce stress and regain a cheerful disposition after a really hectic wet day.

Snuggle up

When it's raining outside and you are stuck inside, it would help if you snuggle up and have a hot beverage or pepper soup and read a book, play a game, music or catch up on a movie or any of your favorite TV programme. It is a good time to snuggle up with your spouse or kids and tell a story or two, just share some quality time together all thanks to the rain.

Catch some sleep

Sleep! sleep!! sleep!!! Yes Being caught indoor because of the rain might just be a good reason to catch up on your beauty sleep. Do you remember those nights when it's raining and you are sleeping, its such a priceless experience. But take caution if you have to go out later, make conscious effort not to over do it though.

Chores

This might just be a good time to clean out that closet, cabinet, wardrobe or in entirety do a spring cleaning. You can do some cooking, iron out the laundry, clean out your kids room and do just about any chore that needs to be done.

A little extra for the sisters

Light or waterproof makeup

Ladies wear light makeup and avoid too much make-up that could get smeared or displaced by water. Invest in some good and affordable water-proof make-up kits. All you need do if you are a-budget-lady, plan and add to your budget list, when shopping for make-up read labels or request from the vendors for water proof make up products.
Water smeared make-up can be a sight for sore eyes, i reject it for you hehehehehe

Don't forget your foldable umbrella and shower caps

Always remember to dry-out a wet umbrella and shower cap, wrap it up properly before putting in your
handbag or shopper bag, you really do not want to forget that very important accessory at home.

Wear comfortable footwear in the rain

Carry your stilettos, pumps, sandals or flats in your handbag or  shopper bag if its pouring on your way out or leave it in the car or office.
Many good shoes have lost their beauty and or got damaged because we put them in water, unless they are water proof. (sadly I have lost too many good shoes to rain).

Protect your beautiful feet

Note that floods can carry a lot of germs due to poor drainages, nearby refuse dumps etc. Jelly rain boots are designed for women so they can be comfortable too in the season. They have beautiful color variations, sizes, designs and by the time you begin to rock yours you might just become a style icon to your friends and colleagues.
I know that they are in online stores and ( will drop a link).

Just don't be weary of the weather, rather think about how it brings about those beautiful plants and how it is a gift from God.

God bless!
